AN OBITUARY NOTICE OF JAS. SMITH MYERS

James Smith Myers was born near Salem, Ohio, October 27, 1855, and departed this life December 12, 1935. He was the son of James Smith Myers, Sr. and Elizabeth Kerr Myers. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sarah Sweeney of Marshalltown, Iowa, and a brother, W.G. Myers of this city. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. E.F. Sharer and Mrs. Jacob Rivers of this city, and a brother, J.K. Myers of Stuart, Iowa. In 1880 he was married to Stella Gregson, daughter of Amos Gregson. To this union six children were born, one son, Weaver C., passing on in 1904 at the age of 21 years. He leaves to morun his loss his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Amy E. Stull of this city and Mrs. Hazel Peterson of Oelrichs, S. Dak.; three sons, Cecil S. of this city, Amos F., of Newton, Ia., and Ray G. of Bellingham, Wash.; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He spent most of his life in this county, excepting 13 years, when he resided in Atlantic, Iowa. He has lived at the family home on South Broad street for the last 28 years. While in Atlantic he united with the Christian church and has been a consistent member ever since. In his earlier years he entered the teaching profession but later changed to insurance. Mr. Myers was quiet and unassuming. He spoke ill of no one. He was a good neighbor and will be missed by a host of friends and relatives.
