ALVIN FOSTER
Alvin M. Foster, 86, of Waterloo, a former resident of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, July 15, at Manor Care Health Center, Waterloo.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Carol Wehr, associate pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Brooklyn, officiated. Organist was Marilyn Kriegel, and casket bearers were John Smith, Doren Dale, Ralph Creps, Gerald Byerly, Brad Foster and Marvin Doty. Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
The son of Charles F. and Sophia D. Schlesselman Foster, he was born March 3, 1911, at Guernsey. He received his education at Guernsey and Brooklyn, graduating from Brooklyn High School. His family moved near Brooklyn in 1925.
He farmed near Hartwick for several years, then moved south of Brooklyn where he farmed until his retirement.
He was married to Hazel M. Duffus, and they were later divorced.
Surviving are two sons, Gerald of LeGrande, Ore., and Marvin of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Lawrence of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
