MRS. CLARA BLACK, LIFETIME RESIDENT, SUCCUMBS FRIDAY

Mrs. Clara Timinia Black, 86, wife of Frank Black of Grinnell, died Friday evening at a local hospital following an illness of the past 10 weeks.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. G.S. Bruland, minister of the Methodist church, officiating. Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Esther Auman.

Serving as flower bearers were Mrs. Raymond Norris and Mrs. Harry Bitcon. Pallbearers were Harry Bitcon, Raynmond Norris, Lyle Goreham, Harry Rehberg, Raymond See, and Croft Pilgrim. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

She was the daughter of Thomas and Georgianna Olson Newton, one of a family of five children, and was born on a farm southeast of Grinnell on March 4, 1877. She received her early education in the country schools southeast of Grinnell.

On May 19, 1926, she was united in marriage with Frank Black in Grinnell by the Rev. Blagg. In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by one brother, John Newton of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Tom Newton; and two sisters, Anna Harrington and Ellen Zigler (Ziegler.)

Mrs. Black had lived in the Grinnell area all of her life. She was a member of the Methodist church and had been a member of the W.S.C.S.
