OBITUARY

HENRY S. GAY

Henry S. Gay was born in Dorsetshire, England, Dec. 17th, 1821 and died in Richland township Jasper Co., Feb. 26th, 1905

In 1855 he left his native country and came to America, settling in New York. He was married in 1856 to Miss Margaret Collett at Chester, Pa. In 1866 he moved to Illinois and in 1877 came to Iowa where he has since resided. Six children were born to them, five of whom have gone before, one daughter, Mrs. Robert Ashby surviving.

Mrs. Gay died Oct. 30th, 1904 and after a little less than four months her aged husband has joined her. Since a short time before the death of his companion his home has been with his daughter, where he has been tenderly cared for and who was at his bedside when the summons came. Besides the daughter there are two brothers and one sister left to mourn his loss.

Mr. Gay's life motto was, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you, be honest with all men." It is the testimony of numerous friends that this motto was faithfuly lived up to. The interment was at Bethel church cemetery Tuesday.
