FRED L. DAVIS

Fred L. Davis, 75, of Grinnell died Friday, May 21, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lon Lewis, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Rick Barnes, Gordon Canfield, Larry Crawford, Tilford Christianson, Jerry Monroe and Dick Peebler.

Graveside rites were conducted by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, and fraternal rites were by members of Hermon Masonic Lodge. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mr. Davis's name may be made to Stewart Library or the Grinnell Fire Department.

He was the son of Clarence Fred and Anna Rachel Wondrisky Davis and was born March 4, 1918, in Marshalltown. He was a graduate of Marshalltown High School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army, and following the war he lived in Tama before moving to Grinnell in 1954. He owned and operated Davis Ice Cream and later worked for the Iowa State Liquor Store as a sales clerk.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Masons and the Blue Lodge Consistery of the Shrine.

There are no immediate survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents.
