AN OBITUARY OF LEROY CRAWFORD

LeRoy Crawford was born in Wardensville, West Virginia, July 31, 1880, and passed away at the University hospital in Iowa City, May 8, 1931, on the anniversary of his wife's birthday, at the age of 50 years, 9 months and 8 days.

At the age of ten years, he with his parents, came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Malcom.

On March 23, 1903, he was united in marriage to Gertrude LeVake. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Arthur Carhuff of Melbourne, Jeanne, who passed away in infancy, and Forrest LeRoy at home. The most of their married life was spent in and around Montezuma, until about 12 years ago, he with his family moved on the George Ehret farm near Deep River. Here they have since resided.

Mr. Crawford was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church when he lived in Montezuma, then later transferred his membership to the Deep River church where he has ever been a faithful member.

He served for several years as a member of the official board both while a member of the Montezuma church and later in the Deep River church. He was ever careful and devoted to the task in hand in all his church work. His special work with the church was with the gospel team and in the choir. He loved to do all he could for the Master.

He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 174, in Montezuma, and of Vashti 113 Rebekah lodge of Montezuma. He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor ever ready to do anything in his power for the good of his fellow men, a firm, sincere believer in his Lord.

Roy, as everybody knew him, had been in uncomplaining ill health for a considerable time and on Tuesday, April 28, entered the hospital for treatment and observation. While his condition was believed to be growing better, he was suddenly stricken with pneumonia and within a very short time passed on to his eternal home. He leaves to mourn his death, his widow, daughter and son, two sisters and four brothers, Mrs. C.L. Johnson and Miss Alberta Crawford of Newton, R.B. Crawford of Admiral, Canada, James R. of Orofino, Idaho, Dan H. of Burlingham, Calif., and Luther of Montezuma. Also three grandsons, Arthur J., James LeRoy and Richard Dean Carhuff, of Melbourne.
