NETA BEASON STEWART

Neta Beason Stewart, 91, of Grinnell died Jan. 21, 2012, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Robert Cook, Mercy Hospital chaplain in Des Moines, officiating. Pallbearers were Bob Christian, Alan, Brian and Scott Cook, Jacob Dunsbergen and Cody Schwarck. Honorary bearers were Anthony and Dylan Cook, Evan and Gary Santee, Clint Stewart and Ben Schwarck. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Neta Beason Stewart Memorial Fund.

Neta was born Aug. 28, 1920, on a farm in Poweshiek County, the daughter of Floyd M. and Lena Faye Jones Beason. She was a 1937 graduate of Searsboro High School.

On Sept. 17, 1938, she was united in marriage with Glenn E. Stewart in Newton and the couple made their home in Grinnell. They moved to Searsboro in 1946 where she was wmployed with the Searsboro School District for several years. They returned to Grinnell in 1966 and she was employed at Grinnell College until her retirement in 1984.

She was a member of the Westfield Community Church and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge.

Neta enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and canning, as well antique shopping, solving crossword puzzles, and sharing time with family and friends.

She is survived by two children, Richard Stewart of Mesa, Ariz., and Mary Cook of Grinnell; one sister, Louise Whitehead of New Sharon; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Retha Lynch and Maxine Armstrong; and one brother, Max Beason.
