GLENN E. STEWART

Glenn E. Stewart, 78, of 1001 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died of cancer Thursday, Sept. 2, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ray Standerwick, pastor of the Westfield-Oak Grove Parish, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and vocalist was Dale Pinkerton.

Pallbearers were Dave Austin, Ernest Blankenfeld, Robert Christian, Mike Eakins, Mike Latcham and Paul Strovers. Honorary bearers were Bud Baird, Bill Gerard, Laverne Latcham, Willie Morrison, Jim Peak and Lynn Spriggs. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Oddy and Katherine Sutton Stewart, he was born April 16, 1917, in Adair County, Mo. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. Following his education he farmed in Adair County.

He was married to Neta F. Beason Sept. 17, 1938, in Newton. They lived in Grinnell where he farmed and worked for the Maytag Company. He also was employed by Grinnell College's building and grounds department. He retired in 1984.

Surviving are his wife; his children, Richard of Mesa, Ariz., and Mary Cook of Kellogg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harvey, Elzo and Orie.
