OBITUARY

NANCY ANN LUNN CARL

Nancy Ann Lunn Carl was born Sept. 2, 1868 to Richard and Ruth Turner Lunn near Ottawa, Ill., and passed away May 10, 1953 in Grinnell.

When less than six weeks old her parents left Illinois by covered wagon and came to a farm near Lynnville where they resided for a time, then moved to the Chester community where she grew up and attended the country schools.

Anna, as she preferred to be called did practical nursing for a number of years and was always happiest when doing for others.

Nov. 25, 1913, she was united in marriage with Wilson Carl in Grinnell. They moved to California to make their home but Mr. Carl passed away fifteen months later. Mrs. Carl returned to Grinnell and has remained here since. She had been living alone for several years until last January when her health forced her to move to a rest home, where she passed away at the age of 84 years, 7 months and 8 days.

Anna was an active member of the United Presbyterian church for a number of years until her health did not permit her to attend. Even then she was faithful in sending her offerings. She loved her church and what the Gospel meant to her. She enjoyed reading her Bible and when her eyesight failed, she loved having others read to her.

Mrs. Carl was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

The surviving members of her family are the following nieces and nephews; John Lunn of Grinnell, Delbert Whitted of Atkinson, Ill., Dick Whitted of Geneseo, Ill., Mrs. Grace Casner of Kewanee, Ill., Mrs. Hattie Beck of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Ada Hull of East Moline, Ill., Mrs. Ella Butzer and Mrs. Eva Birges, both of Atkinson, Ill., and James Ditzler of Marshalltown. She also leaves some cousins and a host of devoted friends whom she cherished to the end.

Funeral services were held from the Smith Funeral Home at 2 p.m. May 12, 1953, conducted by Rev. W.J. Stewart and Rev. T.W. Stark.

Music was provided by Mrs. Marilyn Long, who sang, "In The Garden" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer" with Mrs. Adelma Clevenger at the organ.

Pallbearers were all long time friends, Harry Bacon, Clyde Foster, Arthur Robison, Jap Richeson, Myron Sears and Lloyd Tice.

Mrs. Virgil Case and Mrs. A.A. Robison had charge of the flowers.

Commital services were in Hazelwood cemetery.
