Following an illness of over two and a half years, during which she fought bravely and patiently, Miss Edith Hunter Bye passed away peacefully last Friday evening, at the home of her sister, Mrs. L.C. Bennett, on Fifth avenue.

Edith Hunter Bye, second daughter of George H. and Cornelia C. Bye, was born in Grinnell, February 3, 1878, and practically her whole life has been spent in this city. She received her education here, attending the public schools and later the high school, and following her school work she was employed for several years in the A.B. Cady store, and later in the dry goods store of J.H. McMurray, Jr., and Co. When she was a young girl she united with the Baptist church, and her whole life was a living proof of a quiet steadfast faith, fidelity to friends and loved ones, and an expression of gracious kindliness which made her loved by all who knew her.

Her health began to fail some time ago, and more than two years ago it became evident that her condition was serious. She received the best medcial attention that could be procured, first at Rochester, Minn., and later in Philadelphia, but she grew steadily worse, and for the past several months it has been evident that she could not recover. Six weeks ago, accompanied by her sister, Miss Josephine Bye, she returned to Grinnell, from Wilmington, Del. She continued to fail steadily, but endured her suffering with a kindly patience to the end, which came peacefully, to relieve her.

She leaves her mother, Mrs. George Bye, and three sisters, Miss Josephine and Mrs. L.C. Bennett, of Grinnell; and Mrs. Ruth Bye Nace, of Wilmington, Del., who came a few weeks ago and has been with her during the last few days of her life. In addition to the members of the immediate family, she leaves scores of sincere friends, who in past years have come to realize the beauty of her character, the sincerity of her love and the faithfulness of her friendship.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock this afternoon from the Bennett home conducted by Rev. E.W. Cross. Mrs. Raymond Heishman sang two solos. Bearers were W.J. Nelson, A.M. Button, John Manly, F.F. Clindinin, G.H. McDonald and A.L. Ricker.
