GRACE BARR SERVICES SET

Mrs. Grace Barr, 83, of 1033 Elm St., the widow of Samuel B. Barr, died unexpectedly Saturday evening (Aug. 18) at the home of her daughter, Dorothy, and son-in-law, Marion Primus, in Wellsburg, where she had been visiting. Death was the result of an apparent heart attack.

The daughter of John Wesley and Juantha Dickey Andrews, she was born Jan. 21, 1890, on a farm east of Oskaloosa. She attended schools of that community. On Sept. 14, 1910, she was married to Samuel B. Barr at her parents' home. The couple had three children, Mrs. Marion Primus of Wellsburg, Mrs. J.W. (Kathleen) Heffner of Grinnell, and John Cathel, who died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Barr made their home on farms in the Oskaloosa vicinity immediately following their marriage, and later moved to the Gladbrook-Garwin area. While living there, Mrs. Barr was baptized in the Garwin Christian Church.

In 1927, they moved to Marshalltown, and Mrs. Barr transferred her membership to the Central Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school. The family moved to Grinnell in 1941, and had lived since at the home on Elm St., a landmark because it was the former home of Harry L. Hopkins.

Mrs. Barr was a member of the Searchlight Club and the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her two children; two granddaughters, Susan and Cynthia Heffner; and a sister, Mrs. Edna George of Oskaloosa. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1946, her infant son, and two brothers, Wilfred and Charles.

Funeral services for Mrs. Barr will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Eugene L. McClure officiating. Burial will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Mahaska County, southeast of Oskaloosa. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

Friends may call the Smith Funeral Home.
