JOHN SIDNEY HILLMAN--Obituary

The funeral of Sid Hillman, Bellaire (Kansas) man who died one day last week, was held last Saturday afternoon in the Cora Church in the presence of a large crowd. Burial was in Cora cemetery. An innovation was the erection of a rather large tent over the grave seats being provided on either side for mourners. Mr. Hillman who was 78 years old, had lived in Cora and Bellaire vicinities for 35 years, and was respected by all who knew him. Rev. Harry Opliger officiated at the funeral and preached a most sensible and comforting sermon.

John Sidney Hillman, son of John and Louisa (Morgan) Hillman, was born in *Sac county, Iowa, October 29, 1855 and departed this life December 14, 1933 at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 15 days. On September 17, 1881 he was united in marriage to Mary Melissa Baber. To this union 6 children were born; Bertha M. Gilbert, Grinnell, Iowa, Bennie C., died in infancy, Curtis H., Burlingame, Kansas, Mable Frances Stone, Bloomfield, Iowa, Robert H., Spooner, Wisc., and Vinton L., of Hartford, Iowa.

He came to Kansas in 1898 and made his home in Smith County until his death. On March 1903, he was united in marriage to Laura E. Green. To this union 4 children were born: Alpha E. May, Lebanon, Kansas; Victor E., Pratt, Kansas; Neva L. Tweedy, Phillipsburg, Kansas, and Verle R., who is still at the parental home in Bellaire.

He became a member of the Bellaire M.E. church and was an active member until his health failed 8 years ago. He leaves to mourn his death the wife, 9 children, 1 brother, Frank of Corica, S. Dakota; 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a number of cousins besides the many friends and neighbors. He will be missed most of all by the loving wife who was his constant nurse and companion during his long illness. The family wishes to take this opportunity of expressing their heartfelt thanks to all the friends and relatives who so kindly assisted in the illness and death of our loved one.--Exchange.
