FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. ELIZABETH SPARKS ARE HELD

Eliza Luella Sturdivan, daughter of William and Polly Ann Sturdivan, was born in Rock Island county, Illinois March 7, 1856, and departed this life October 20, 1934, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 13 days. She was the youngest of a family of eight children. All the members of her immediate family have preceded her in death.

On August 18, 1875, she was united in marriage with Ed Sparks, who passed away Feb. 14, 1930.

On January 5, 1930, Mrs. Sparks fell at her home and broke her hip, and since that time has been practically an invalid. She has made her home for the past twelve years in the Oak Grove community. Before coming to Poweshiek county they lived at Perry, Iowa.

Since the death of her devoted husband, she has shared her home with three different families. The past three years she has been cared for by her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Noah. There were no children.

The funeral services for Mrs. Ed Sparks were held in the First Friends church Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln. Three songs, "Going Down the Valley One by One," "Face to Face with Christ, My Saviour," and "Shall We Gather at the River" were sung by a mixed quartet, Mrs. William Boyle, Mrs. Fred McDowell, Edward E. Lincoln and Alma Bailey, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Alice Lincoln. Burial was at Hazelwood. The pallbearers were Ernest Lincoln, Alfred Paul, Leonard Simmons, Rollo Whitaker, Ernest Harris and Edward Onthank.
