A GOOD CITIZEN PASSES AWAY

Edward Sparks Dies Quite Suddenly Friday of Pneumonia--Mrs. Sparks Still in Hospital.

Edward Sparks was born in the state of Indiana, September 28, 1852, and passed from this life on February 14, 1930, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 17 days. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Sparks who have preceded him in death.

Mr. Sparks came to Iowa, Poweshiek County, with his parents and grew to young manhood here. He was united in marriage August 18, 1875, to Eliza Sturdivant, and they soon moved to Audubon County, Ia., where they lived a short time, then moved to Nebraska and settled on a homestead which they improved. From Nebraska they moved to Laurens, Iowa, where they owned a beautiful home, thence to Perry, Ia., in Dallas county, thence to their home in Washington township, where they have lived about 10 years.

Saturday, February 8, Mr. Sparks was taken to the Community Hospital of this city where he was tenderly cared for until his death.

Edward Sparks is survived by his wife, Eliza Sparks, his brothers, Andy, of Indiana, William of Marshalltown, and Barton and Crawford of this city, one sister in Des Moines and one in Washington, besides nephews, nieces and a host of friends.

He was a man of strong integrity, was always willing to help any one in need, and anxious for the welfare of those about him. It is said by those who knew him, "His word is as good as his bond." He was a faithful husband and companion. During the past weeks he has been very anxious for his companion who is at this time at the Community hospital. Of late Mr. Sparks has manifested a keen interest in the church and frequently read his Bible.

Interment was made in Hazelwood, services being held from the Friends Church in charge of Rev. Mr. Marlenee.
