LAURA ELDORA SPARKS

Laura Eldora Sparks, died at her home at 715 Center street, after a lingering sickness. Laura E. Head was born in Washington township, 9 miles south of Grinnell, Jan. 27, 1868, and died Dec. 31, 1916, aged 48 years, 11 months and 4 days. On Feb. 14, 1886, she was united in marriage to Barton Sparks of Poweshiek county. To this union were born nine children, three daughters preceding their mother to the heavenly home. The husband, three sons and three daughters remain to mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother, whose life was given in sacrificial service for her family. Mrs. Sparks was a conscientious Christian mother and neighbor, and will be missed by all who knew her. Her children are: Mrs. George Wisecarver, of Grinnell; Mrs. Charley Mitchell, of Iowa City; Mrs. Finley Blande, of Des Moines; and Jimmie, Merle and Donald Sparks, of Grinnell. Mrs. Sparks also leaves three sisters and two brothers.

Short funeral services were held at the house Tuesday morning, Jan. 2, at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.M. Brown. A longer service was held at the Blue Point cemetery, where the body was peacefully laid to rest by loving hands. Singing was by Miss Lane and Mrs. E.A. Black.
