SMILEY DIES IN ARKANSAS

Dr. George W. Smiley, formerly of Grinnell, died at the Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village, Ark., on Jan. 12, after a three-month illness.

George Smiley graduated from Grinnell College in 1937 and from the State University of Iowa College of Medicine. After he served in the U.S. Army in Missouri, Colorado and North Carolina, he was a staff physician at the tuberculosis sanitarium at Oakdale, superintendent and medical director at the Sunnyslope sanitorium in Ottumwa, assistant medical director and medical director at the Arkansas State Sanitorium at Boonville, and physician at the Arkansas State Prison Farm at Cummins.

He was engaged in family practice at the Lake Village Clinic in Lake Village for two years before his death. He was an Excellate of the American Academy of Tuberculology and a fellow in the American College of Lung Physicians.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia; two daughters, Julia and Margaret; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Siebert of Flagstaff, Ariz., and a brother, Francis of Jackson, Miss.
