MABEL MENGES SERVICES HELD

Mabel Menges, 78, of 1306 East St., Grinnell, died Saturday, March 6, in the emergency room of Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud. Burial was at the Taylorville Cemetery northeast of Arlington, Iowa.

The daughter of Orseamus and Margaret Brown Adams, she was born June 22, 1903, at Arlington. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1922 and later was employed as a bookkeeper.

On Dec. 6, 1924, she was married to Leslie F. Menges at West Union, and the couple lived in Garrison where Mr. Mengas managed a lumber yard. They came to Grinnell in 1945.

Mrs. Menges was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational. While in Garrison., she was a member of the Garrison Study Club, the Garrison Women's Club and the Garrison Bethany Circle. She was also a member of Omega Sigma, a Grinnell business and professional women's club, and was employed at Willard's and Hamman's Apparel for a number of years. She aslo worked as a receptionist at Grinnell College and as a representative for Luzier Cosmetics.

In 1955, Mr. and Mrs. Menges moved to Storm Lake. She returned to Grinnell following her husband's death.

Survivors include her sons, Jim L. Menges of Clinton and Gary L. Menges of Seattle, Wash., and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Sam Adams.
