GEORGE H. DUNNING

George Howard, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Truman S. Dunning was born at Gloversville, New York, Dec. 3, 1878 and died at his home, 1741 North Lincoln St., Chicago, Ill., July 19th, 1930, at the age of 51 years, 7 months, 16 days. Truman S. Dunning ran the first wax thread machine manufactured in 1861 for a period of 25 years, so it was but natural George should follow his father's occupation and become an expert operator of a wax thread sewing machine.

He came to Grinnell, Iowa in March 1900, to enter the employ of Morrison Ricker Glove Company, with which he was connected for over 12 years. May 7, 1902 he was married to Ione L. Shifflett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Asher Shifflett of Grinnell.

Two sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dunning, Asher S. of Long Beach, Cal.; Lauren E., who is at home and a junior in Lake View High School. Soon after leaving the employ of Morrison Ricker Glove Co., he went into business for himself, establishing the Grinnell Vucanizing Company which later was sold to Ben Tarleton. Since moving to Chicago in August 1926, he has been in the employ of Stahl & Dean, a sporting goods firm.

He was a member of the Congregational Church and Hermon Lodge No. 273 A.F. and A.M., Grinnell, Ia.

Besides the wife and two sons, he is survived by his granddaughter, Barbara Ann Dunning, Long Beach, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Trump, Gloversville, N.Y.; Mrs. Hattie Towle Shaunavon, Sask., Canada; one brother, Amos Dunning, Milwaukee, Wis.

A tribute from Mr. Hartman, Secretary, Stahl & Dean, Mfg Co.:

"We trust that the deep appreciation of our own loss will somewhat ease your sorrow. We have known your husband as one of our fellow workers and we have learned to admire him. We can but express to you our deepest sympathy."
