OBITUARY

MRS. IONE LUCILLE DUNNING

Mrs. Ione Lucille Dunning, youngest daughter of seven children born to Asher and Laura Shifflett, as born at Malcom on May 2, 1881.

She spent her youth on the farm, attended rural school until she was 11, when she moved with her parents to Grinnell. She continued public school through her sophomore year and was married May 7, 1902 at the home of her parents to George Howard Dunning, son of Truman S. and Louise Dunning.

They were the parents of two sons, Asher Shifflett Dunning of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lauren Eugene Dunning of Glendale.

She spent an active life in Grinnell where she was a member of the Christian church, P.T.A., Rebekah Lodge, Pythian Sisters and Eastern Star, holding high offices in each.

In 1926 the family moved to Chicago where they lived until Mr. Dunning's death in 1930. She moved to Long Beach where she resided until 1933 when she went to Los Angeles.

Noted for her sparkling wit to match her flashing brown eyes, quick humor and spontaneous laughter, she was a gracious hostess and loved to have her family and friends visit her. She loved sports, particularly football and baseball.

Surviving are her two sons, Asher and Lauren; two granddaughters, Mrs. Barbara Michaels and Gail Dunning; one great granddaughter, Judith Lynn Michaels; and a brother, Dr. Clarence E. Shifflett, with whom she made her home at the time of her death.

She was an aunt of Mrs. Carl Paxon of Grinnell.

Mrs. Dunning died May 20. She was 74 years old.
