A heart attack last Friday morning claimed the life of Mrs. James T. Benda, 72, at St. Francis hospital in Grinnell. Mrs. Benda, who had suffered with arthritis for many years, had been admitted into the hospital the first of last week for treatment of injuries she received in a fall at her home. Her condition was improved on Thursday, a few hours before she was suddenly stricken early the following day.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning, May 30, at nine o'clock at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Chelsea with the Rev. J.R. Goodman officiating at the requiem mass. Rosary services were held Sunday evening at Hrabak's Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Interment was in St. Joseph's cemetery at Chelsea with the following serving as pallbearers: Albert Voelkel and Edwin Iezek of Brooklyn, Carl Crane of Belle Plaine, Dennis Hrabak of Marion; Milton Cronbaugh of Hartwick and Edward Johnson, Jr. of Chelsea.

Rose Agnes Benda was born at Williams, Iowa, August 19, 1893, the daughter of Josie Haijsman Posekany and John Posekany. At an early age she moved with her parents to Seaforth, Minn. where she was married June 22, 1915, in St. Mary's church to James T. Benda of Brooklyn.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Benda returned to the former's farm eight miles north of Brooklyn where they always lived. In June, 1965, they observed their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Benda was active in St. Joseph's Church at Chelsea and its Rosary Society. She was also an active member of the C.W.W. Club of Brooklyn.

Survivors include her husband, James T. Benda of Brooklyn; two sons, Arnold of Brooklyn and Kenneth of Hartwick; and a daughter, Mrs. Martin E. (Alberta) Brosnahan of Brooklyn.
