Funeral Plans Are Not as Yet Determined. Mrs. Thornton Leaves Many Friends
--------------------------

A telegram received Monday night brought the sad word of the death of Mrs. Mary A. Thornton, mother of Mrs. L.V. Thompson, in a hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Thornton had spent part of the summer at the Thompson home here but about July 1 went to Los Angeles, where she had an apartment and expected to spend the winter. The first news that she was not well came in a letter received Saturday, in which she said that she was going to have a physical examination. A second telegram announcing that she was to be taken to the hospital, was followed by the telegram announcing her death.

The body will be brought to Grinnell, but funeral plans have not been definitely announced as yet. When the telegram announcing her death was received Mrs. Thompson was in Minneapolis, but started for home as soon as the news reached her and is expected here today.

Mrs. Thornton had a wide circle of friends in Grinnell. She spent much time here and for a time was a valued assistant in Mr. Thompson's store, where she made friends by the hundred.

Before her marriage she was Mary A. Posten and was born and grew to womanhood in Tama. She was born the same year and date as the late Calvin Coolidge.

Her husband preceded her in death and she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Thompson, and a brother, Ray Posten, of Maxwell, Iowa.
