Obituary dated Sept. 2, 1927

MRS. IOWA HARNER BURIED TUESDAY

Iowa Parker, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Parker, was born Nov. 9, 1853 in Fairfield, Ia. and departed this life Aug. 29, 1927, at the age of 73 years and nine months.

She was one of a family of 12 children, all of whom, with her twin brother, preceded her.

She was married to Joseph Watson Harner in 1874 at Browntown, south of Montezuma.

To this union were born five children: Nora, Hattie, Merrit, Nellie, and Joseph, all deceased except Joseph and three grandchildren, Harold Harner, John and Bessie Shewmake, who survive her.

Mrs. Harner in her early married life was a true pioneer and with her husband went through the many hardships incident to such a life, with a brave and cheerful spirit. Their home was in Norton County, Kansas.

After her husband's death, she went out as a nurse, and continued this service as long as her health permitted. She loved this work and gave unstintedly of her strength in caring for the sick, and was always ready to do what she could in her service for others. She was very conscientious and sincere in her christian life.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Snyder Bros. chapel conducted by Rev. Robert Lincoln. Mrs. D.H. Snook and Mrs. W.F. Smith sang very sweetly the hymn, "There will be no Dark Valley," which Mrs. Harner had asked to have sung at her funeral. Burial was in Hazelwood. Pall bearers were Clifford Parker, Rudolph Parker, Sylvester Martin, Bert LeVake, Robert McDowell and Raymond Hutchinson.
