MR. LATCHAM SERVICES SET

Howard M. Latcham, 80, of 1812 Eighth Ave., Grinnell, died Tuesday morning at Grinnell General Hospital. He had been in failing health for seven years.

The son of Leonard and Sarah Ann Nelson Latcham, he was born near Ewart on Oct. 11, 1893. During World War I he served in the U.S. Army with a machine gun company attached to the 88th Infantry.

Following his discharge he was married to Cecil Annetta Olson on July 2, 1919. The couple had four children: Mrs. Wayne (Florence) Stanerson of Marengo, Merle Latcham who died in 1965, Gail Latcham of rural Montezuma, and Lyle John Latcham of Grinnell. Mr. and Mrs. Latchm had farmed in Poweshiek County near Montezuma from 1932 to 1957, when they retired to make their home in Grinnell.

Mr. Latcham was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Hopeful Barracks of World War I Veterans, and in earlier years the former Sunnyslope Grange near Malcom.

He is survived by his wife; his three children; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Della Albright of West Bend. He was preceded in death by his son Merle; one granddaughter; two brothers, Clark and Paul Latcham; and a sister, Mrs. Olivia Souter.

Funeral services for Mr. Latcham will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with the Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the church, officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Miss Susan Heffner, vocalist. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Allen Latcham, Craig Latcham, David Latcham, Dennis Latcham, Michael Latcham, Raymond Latcham, Randy Latcham, and Ron Stanerson. Graveside rites will be conducted by Don Baker, commander, and W.K. Richardson, chaplain, of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
