The Brooklyn (IA) Chronicle; July 27, 1888

SLEGGEL--Died, at her home in Brooklyn Saturday, July 21, of heart disease, Miss Mary Laura Sleggel, aged 24 years 6 months and 5 days.

The deceased had been a sufferer the past two years, but was not considered dangerously ill previous to her death. Her death was very sudden and unexpected. She had eaten her breakfast and was doing the work about the house when falling suddenly ill, she was taken to her bed and lived only about one hour. The deceased was loved by a large circle of friends and her sudden death brings sorrow to many relatives and friends to whom the sympathies of Brooklyn people are extended. She had lived with her grandmother a great deal and her decease will be keenly felt by her who regarded her as a daughter. The funeral services were held at the residence on Sabbath afternoon conducted by Rev. C.V. Cowan and was attended by a large congregation. The display of flowers was very large. The remains were deposited in the Brooklyn cemetery in the presence of many sorrowing friends.
