ELSIE BUTTS SHOEMAKER

Mayme Elsie Butts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Butts, was born in Kansas, in the year 1880 and had she been permitted to live until July 21st, would have been forty-six years of age.

She grew to womanhood in Montezuma and was married there in 1904 to Thomas E. Shoemaker.

Mr. and Mrs. Shoemaker lived in Montezuma until 1910 when they moved to Wyoming and they were living at Newcastle in that state, when Mrs. Shoemaker died.

They were making an auto trip in the mountains on July 4th, when the front axle of the car broke, causing a crash, the shock of which was too much for Mrs. Shoemaker, who died in a few hours.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a woman possessing many fine traits of character which endeared her to all who knew her. She has many firm friends in Montezuma who regret to hear of her untimely death. She was a member and active worker in the Methodist Church.--Montezuma Republican.
