GODFREY CRIDER.

Brooklyn Chronicle: Godfrey Crider was born of Swiss parentage in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, February 23, 1847, and died in the hospital in Iowa City, September 10, 1914, aged 67 years, 6 months and 17 days.

At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to the old homestead in Lincoln township, Poweshiek county, Iowa. On this farm he grew to manhood and lived continuously for fifty-eight years, until, with his family, he moved to Brooklyn in December, 1913.

He was married January 7, 1872, to Mary Francena Conley, who was born of American parentage, and who with all her children except one remains to mourn his loss. To this union were born eight sons, Charles O., William O., Fred L., Guy E., Robert E., Louis and Clair, of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Alfred L., of Mason City, Iowa; and three daughters, Mrs. Eva May Armstrong and Mrs. Elsie Belle Kilmer, of Brooklyn, Ia., and Lucy Maria, who died in infancy.

Mr. Crider was baptized in the Lutheran church. About thirty years ago he joined the Moravian church near his farm and served faithfully as sexton and in other capacities during his long residence there.

He was a member of Poweshiek Lodge K. of P. for about twenty-five years and greatly enjoyed the lodge fellowship. For many years he was actively associated with the Poweshiek County Farmers Insurance Company. Throughout his life he exhibited strong Christian character and uprightness. He was a kind and sympathetic neighbor, and a loving husband and father.

Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. S.E. Koons. Interment was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery. Poweshiek Lodge K. of P. had charge of the burial services.
