TRACTOR OVERTURNS, BUT FARMER'S DEATH BLAMED ON HEART ATTACK

A heart attack caused the death of George Jack, 69, Deep River farmer, who was found by a school bus driver late Thursday afternoon, pinned under his overturned tractor.

Dr. K.W. Caldwell, Poweshiek county medical examiner, said Mr. Jack died at the wheel of his tractor before it left a gravel road and overturned in a ditch near his home, five miles southwest of Victor.

Services were held from McAninch chapel in Victor Sunday at 1:30 and at the Presbyterian church in Deep River at 2:30. The Rev. Wayne A. Fisher officiated at both services.

Pallbearers were Terry, Randy, Denny, and Mervin Jack, Robert Seye and Dean Fontinel. Honorary bearers were Danny, Gary, Myron, Bruce and Lonnie Jack. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor.

Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Cordes, Mr. and Mrs. Burdett Cranston, Mr. and Mrs.Lewis Schwertfeger and Mrs. Harry Pierce.

George William Jack, son of William J. and Mae Ennis Jack, was born Oct. 10, 1898, near Deep River, Iowa. His parents later moved to Kinross, where he received his education. The next few years of life were spent at What Cheer.

Nov. 29, 1922, he was married to Naomi Grier at Deep River. The couple had four sons.

Mr. Jack farmed near Deep River, later moved to the Guernsey community, and then to a farm near Victor, where he lived for 15 years. In 1957 he moved to his home near Deep River and had spent the last two years in semi-retirement.

Surviving are his wife and four sons, Burdette, Melvin and Lowell of Victor, and Stan of Fayette; three sisters, Mrs. Winifred Schrader of Sigourney, Mrs. Mabel Brain of Ojai, Calif., and Mrs. Ruby Peterson of Camarillo, Calif.; a brother, Ted, of Newton; and 17 grandchildren.
