ELIZA J. GRIER, 95

Eliza Jane, daughter of Joseph and Margaret Olivia Johnston, born north of Deep River, Dec. 9, 1871, and departed this life on February 20, 1967, at ninety-five years of age.

On March 6, 1895, she was united in marriage with Charles Grier. To this union five children were born. They lived on a farm north of Deep River until her husband's death in 1910. She later moved to Deep River where she spent the remainder of her life.

She was reared in a Christian home and united with the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church at an early age, later transferring her membership to the Deep River Methodist Church.

Eliza was a life member of the Mayflower Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons: Harlan, who died in infancy and Benton.

She is survived by three daughters, Martha Hillman, of Blakesburg, Virginia; Margaret Knupp of Cedar Rapids; and Florence Lester, of Barnes City; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Grier of Deep River; seven grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Taylor of Guernsey; one brother, Joshua Johnston of Deep River; other relatives and many friends.
