ROBERT LEUTY

Robert J. Leuty, 43, the husband of Marla Morrison of Iowa City and son-in-law of Lavern and Margaret Morrison of Grinnell, died Friday, Aug. 20, at University Hospitals in Iowa City following an extended illness.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City.

The son of Dr. and Mrs. G.J. Leuty of Knoxville, he was born Dec. 24, 1949, in Knoxville. He was a 1967 graduate of Newton High School. He attended Marshalltown Community College and worked at Maytag until entering the U.S. Army and serving as a personnel specialist in Mannheim, Germany, from 1969 to 1971. Following his discharge, he studied further at Des Moines Area Community College and the University of Iowa.

He was married to Marla Morrison Feb. 18, 1978, in Grinnell. They lived in Mt. Pleasant where he was employed by Independent Builders, and in New London were Marla Leuty was a vocal music instructor.

In April 1978 he underwent surgery for a brain tumor. He later attended classes at Southeastern Community College and Iowa Wesleyan College. He was a member of New London Presbyterian Church and the Lions Club.

In 1982 he relocated to Iowa City and was employed at University Hospitals before developing further complications of his illness. He volunteered with the hospital gift shop from 1983 to 1988 and participated in the Adult Day Program at the Iowa City Senior Center. In March 1989 he moved to Chatham Oaks Care Facility in Iowa City and later to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he had resided until recently.

Surviving are his wife; is father of Santa Rosa, Calif.; his mother, Martha Vonfeldt of Douglas, Kan.; two brothers, John of Denver, Colo., and Joseph of Wichita, Kan.; and one sister, Maxine of Wichita.
