JOHN J. TYLER
John J. Tyler, son of William and Laura Tyler was born November 26, 1888 on the family farm two miles west of Malcom and died at a local hospital April 10th following a lingering illness. He was still farming the home farm.
He was a good neighbor and a good friend, he was sentimental about the better things of life, he was attached and devoted to his possessions, he often endangerd his own health in caring for his livestock. When he changed to tractors to do his farm work, he would not sell his old horses, but turned them out to pasture to enjoy life the rest of their days, saying "they had earned their keep."
Although he was not active in church work, he lived a good clean Christian life, and contributed regularly to the chruch that he had joined in his youth. He had many freinds among the young folks and contributed to their entertainment and well being by giving them part time jobs.
Surviving are two brothers, George W. of Seattle, Wash., and Oliver A. of Harvey, Ill., two sisters, Mrs. Charles Douglass of Grinnell and Mrs. A.E. Strand of LaGrange, Ill., and six nephews and one niece.
Funeral services for Jay Tyler, native of Malcom and life-long resident of the community, were held Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church at Malcom with Rev. Julian Carter officiating.
Mrs. Nellie Farley was soloist and flower bearers were Mrs. Walter Beck, Mrs. Wm. Vogt and Mrs. Herschel Griffith.
Pallbearers were Walter Beck, Fred Beck, Leo Kelm, Herschel Griffith, Oran Reed and William Vogt. Interment was in Ivy Hill cemetery, with James Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. Tyler died Sunday, April 10, following a long illness. A farmer in the Malcom community, he was 66 years old.
