Evelyn Mae Paul, 80, of Erlanger, Ky., formerly of Grinnell, died Monday, Dec 19, 2005, at Villa Springs Care Center in Erlanger.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 22, at Northern Kentucky Baptist Church in Lakeside Park, Ky.

A visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 24, beginning at 9 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with a brief memorial service at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Hazelwood Cemetery. Friends may send condolences to the family online at www.smithfh.com.

She was born April 24, 1925, in River Falls, Wis., the daughter of George and Ethel Hoffmeyer. She was a graduate of Northwestern Bible College and St. Barnabas School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn. She was married to Gordon Paul on Dec. 15, 1956. A resident of Grinnell from 1956 to 1997, she was a registered nurse at Friendship Manor Care Center for 28 years beginning in 1966 and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son Victor Paul of Greenville, Texas; her daughter Ruth Irby of Florence, Ky.; eight grandchildren and three brothers, Franklin Hoffmeyer, River Falls, William (Bill) Hoffmeyer, Hampton, Minn., and Paul Hoffmeyer of River Falls. She was preceded in death in 1971 by her husband Gordon Paul, a linotype operator with the Grinnell Herald-Register in the 1950s and 1960s; one sister, Edith Faris, and one granddaughter, Sarah Paul who died Oct. 27, 2005.
