HELD ELLENSON RITES TODAY
William Ellenson, 71, of Grinnell died Thursday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services for William Ellenson were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Harry Linnenbrink, pastor of the church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Roy Fleming, Roger Gritsch, Lyle Muckler, William Swanson, Dale Watts, and Richard Zobel. Burial was in the Calvary section of Hazelwood Cemetery.
The scripture service was held at 8 p.m. Sunday evening at Smith Funeral Home.
The son of Edward and Anne Wuetterich Ellenson, he was born on Feb. 28, 1906, in Morton, Ill. He was a graduate of Morton High School in 1923, and farmed near Morton until 1940. He attended officer's candidate school in army administration at Fargo, N.D. After graduation he served in the 2nd division of the Engineer Supply Corps, as a 1st Lieutenant at Sharonville, Ohio.
After the war, he ran a research farm near Dayton, Ia., for the DeKalb Agricultural Association. He married Thelma J. Meyer on Dec. 12, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell. The couple had three sons, William D., James L. and Kenneth E.
The Ellensons moved to Grinnell from Dayton to make their home in 1949, and he was in the interior decorating and home painting business until his health began to fail. He was active in local and state bowling associations, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert, who died in infancy. Survivors include his wife; his sons; and a brother and sister, Glenn W. Ellenson of Mackinaw, Ill., and Leona Eden of York, Pa.
