RITES HELD FOR HAZEL NORMAN
Hazel Norman, 86, of rural Searsboro died Tuesday, July 12, at Grinnell General Hospital after a short illness.
Funeral services were conducted July 15 at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon, with the Rev. J.T. Ross officiating. Burial was at the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
The daughter of Vern and Carrie Cowman, she was born Nov. 26, 1896, at Monroe. She was married to Major Norman on Feb. 28, 1917. The couple had two children.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman spent their early married life farming near Monroe, moving to rural Grinnell in 1928 and to rural Searsboro in 1936. In 1942 they purchased the farm where Mrs. Norman was living at the time of her death.
When she was younger, she was active in the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, and in later years she attended the West Liberty Church of Christ. Mr. and Mrs. Norman were members of the Victor Grange while living near Grinnell.
Mrs. Norman was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one grandchild.
She is survived by her children, Norma Stevens of Burlington and Marvin Norman of Searsboro; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith Cowman, and two sisters, Cleo Fouch of Monroe and Greta Hise of California.
