MARVIN NORMAN
Marvin K. Norman, 78, of rural Searsboro died Wednesday, May 15, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Lynnville Friends Church, with the Rev. Marvin Miller officiating. Interment was at Friends Cemetery, Lynnville, with the Harden Funeral Home of New Sharon in charge of arrangements.
He was born Feb. 5, 1924, near Monroe and was the son of Major and Hazel Cowman Norman. He was a 1942 graduate of Searsboro High School.
He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served at Okinawa during World War II.
On Dec. 17, 1945, he was married to Marilyn Macy at the family farm near Searsboro. They farmed there until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Norman was a member of the Lynnville Friends Church and had served on the Searsboro Community School Board and the Lynnville Telephone Company Board. He operated his own trucking company for many years.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Beverly VanDerZyl of East Dubuque, Ill., and Barbara Norman of Grinnell; two sons, Mark of Searsboro and Myron of Newton; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister. His parents preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
