FLOYD P. RICHMAN, 87

Floyd P. Richman, 87, of Grinnell, died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at St. Francis Manor, Grinnell.

His funeral service was Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Diane Eberhart of the United Methodist Church, Grinnell, officiating. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

Casket bearers were Eric Kingery, Troy Kingery, R. Jay Agnew, Steve Richman, David A. Richman, Kyle Richman, Terry Morrison and Eric Dean.

Honorary casket bearers were Bob and Marilyn Helmick, Leonard and Velma Heinselman, Ron and Sharon Johnson, Del and Mary Emperley, Gene and Maxine Martinson, Harry Duffus, Floyd Lacina, Merle and Audrey Reitzler and the staff at A&M Cafe.

Floyd was born on June 27, 1916, in Poweshiek County, the oldest of 11 children born to Charles and Vivian (Short) Richman. He lived near Brooklyn and Deep River. Floyd stayed in Gibson with Mrs. Chandler his last year of high school where he graduated from Gibson High School in 1934. Following graduation he ran a grocery store in Deep River until 1936. He then worked as a butcher in a grocery store at Victor, and met Dorothy Weisskopf, who clerked at the grocery store. Floyd and Dorothy were married on June 29, 1937, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They lived near Deep River and then moved to Montezuma, where Floyd worked at a gas station and then James Produce. Dorothy worked at Fulmer's Grocery. To this union four children were born, Sharon, Judy, Larry and Lynn. They moved to Malcom in 1947 to help Dorothy's father run a filling station. A year later, they moved back to Montezuma and Floyd began working for the Poweshiek County Road Department. They moved to Grinnell in 1961 and Floyd continued to work for the Road Department until his retirement. On June 27, 1987, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Little Brown Church, on the same day their granddaughter, Sonja Kingery, married Terry Morrison. Following their retirement they moved to Lake Ponderosa where they lived for 10 years. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Ponderosa Association Building in 1997. Floyd and Dorothy moved back to Grinnell to Seeland Park in 1988. Dorothy died March 15, 1999. Some of Floyd's favorite memories would include family fishing trips; trips to Texas, the east coast and Indiana, and the family reunions.

Survivors include their family, Sharon (and Calvin) Kingery of Grinnell; Judy (and Robert) Agnew of Montezuma; Larry (and Connie) Richman of Urbandale; and Lynn (and Juanita) Richman of Iowa City; eight grandchildren, Sonja (and Terry) Morrison, Eric (and Julie) Kingery, Troy (and Jennifer) Kingery, Trisha (and Eric) Dean, R. Jay (and Heather) Agnew, Steve (and Lori) Richman, David A. (and Beth) Richman; and David M. (and Dawn) Richman; 17 great-grandchildren, Joshua Morrison, Mitchell and Kaylyn Kingery, Caleb, Cody and Isaac Kingery, Emily and Jacob Sears, R. Trevor and Meghan Agnew, Katie and Kyle Richman, Meghan, Sage and Seth Richman, and Dylan and Jessica Richman; three brothers, Eldon (Jean) Richman of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Francis Richman of Brownsville, Texas; and Richard Richman of Montezuma; one sister, Alberta Beard (and Larry Schmitt) of Brownsville, Texas; one half-sister, Vinetta (and Leonard) Waltermire of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a number of brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 1999; two sisters, C. Faye Staecker and Thelma Johnson, and four brothers, Wm. Lyle, Lowell, Paul and M. Dean.

A memorial in his name has been established for Grinnell Regional Hospice or Lake Ponderosa Association.
