MRS. MCDONALD RITES TODAY

Gladys Hope McDonald, 63, the wife of Alva L. McDonald of 717 Spring St., Grinnell, died suddenly early Thursday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. McDonald were held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves, pastor of the Grinnell Assembly of God Church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Sam Reaves, organist, and Gordon Van Donselaar, vocalist. Pallbearers were David Cole, Eldon Gerard, Leroy Johnson, LaVern McDonald, Robert McDonald, and Marlyn Olson. Burial was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The daughter of Chester A. and Inda Irene Meyers McDonald, she was born Feb. 27, 1912, near Malcom. She attended rural school near her home. On May 9, 1936, she was married to Alva Lavern McDonald in Hampton. The couple had six children.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. McDonald lived in Iowa Falls. They moved to Grinnell in 1949. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband, Alva; her six children, William E. McDonald of Carrizo, Tex., Lavern D. McDonald with the U.S. Navy in Harlan, S.C., Mrs. Harlan (Alice) Mowrey of New Sharon, Mrs. Charles (Margaret) Bunn of Grinnell, Mrs. Melvin (Pauline) Sieck of Rte. 4, Grinnell, and Wendell D. McDonald of Grinnell; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Fred (Hazel) Ashing. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard and Harry McDonald, and one sister, Margery McDonald.
