EVA PEPOON SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Eva M. Pepoon, 94, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Pepoon died Sunday evening, Oct. 6, at Grinnell General Hospital of injuries she suffered when she was struck by a Rock Island freight train at the Pearl St. crossing here Saturday.

The Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and honorary pallbearers were Oliver W. Bean, George Hans, Robert Lang, Tracy Lidtka, J. Lawrence Madill and Raymond Nichol.

Graveside services were held this afternoon at Platte City Cemetery, Platte, S.D.

The daughter of Milton and Elizabeth Morrow Kirkpatrick, she was born May 30, 1878, at Fairbury, Ill. While she was young, her family homesteaded a farm near Platte, S.D. She was married to Dan Harris, and the couple had one son, David, who preceded her in death. Mr. Harris died, and she was later married to M.C. Hartzer, who also preceded her in death. In 1939, she was married to Ray Pepoon. Mr. and Mrs. Pepoon farmed in Chester Township north of Grinnell. Following their retirement, they moved to Grinnell. Mr. Pepoon died Jan. 8, 1948.

Mrs. Pepoon was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the W.C.T.U., and the Helping Hands Club.

Survivors include nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, five brothers and one sister.
