ARTHUR DITZLER DIES IN GRINNELL

Arthur E. Ditzler, 76, of 1609 Ninth Avenue passed away Saturday afternoon at Grinnell General Hosptial West, following brief hospitalization. He had not been in good health the past two years.

He was the son of David and Lilie Tucker Ditzler and was born in Grinnell on May 7, 1891. He attended the Grinnell schools and enlisted in the Army during World War I serving oveseas with the signal corps as a telegrapher. Following his discharge, Mr. Ditzler lived in Grinnell, Marshalltown and Oskaloosa with the railroads as a telegrapher. He also farmed for a time in the Ewart area. After his retirement, he lived in Palisade, Minn., and came to Grinnell to make his home in 1963. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; 3 step-children, Mrs. E.A. VanderLinden of Indianola, Fred Eisele of Fargo, N. Dak., and Frank Eisele of Atlanta, Ga. Also surviving are 8 step-grandchildren and three sisters: Mrs. Ada Stowe of Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Hazel Ingersol of Des Moines; and Mrs. Lew (Helen) Wallace of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his brother Floyd in 1962.

Mr. Ditzler was a member of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 of the Grinnell American Legion; Marshall Lodge No. 108, A.F. & A.M.; and Signet Chapter No. 38 of the Royal Arch Masons, both of Marshalltown.

Funeral services for Arthur E. Ditzler, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Myrtle Lee, pastor of the Searsboro Friends Church, officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner. Pallbearers will be Teunis E. DeRuiter, Earl Beyer, Dale Icenbice, Edwin Lincoln, E.W. Crossett, and E.A. VanderLinden.

American Legion rites will be conducted by Jack Day, chaplain, and W.K. Richardson, commander of the Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 Ceremonial Unit of the Grinnell American Legion.

Burial will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart, Iowa. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
