MRS. BATTEN SERVICES HELD

Idablle Gray Batten 93, of Claremont, Calif., mother of the late Ruth Gearhart of Grinnell, died Dec. 5 at the Hillhaven Convalescent Hospital in Claremont.

The daughter of Oscar L. and Bertha Gray, she was born Aug. 6, 1885, in Adel. She was married to Paul LaVerne Batten on March 10, 1909.

The Battens ran a store in Ortonville for several years, then moved to Adel where Mr. Batten worked as a carpenter. They later farmed in Dallas County until 1938 when they moved to California.

Mrs. Batten was a member of the First Methodist Church in Adel, later transferring her membership to the Trinity Methodist Church in Pomona, Calif.

Survivors include a brother, Earl J. Gray of Claremont; two sons, Richard K. Batten of Blackwell, Okla., and Charles R. Batten of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruth Gearhart of Grinnell.
