ART DRYDEN SPENT MOST OF LIFE ON FARM NEAR MONTE
Art, son of John and Mary Dryden, was born in Poweshiek county on a farm a half mile east of U.S. 63 and Ewart road Nov. 28, 1882, and spent almost all his life there. He never married. He was found dead in his yard Jan. 16, at 81 years of age.
In his youth he attended the rural school at the corner. As he grew older he took over the farm work, living in the family home with his sister, Eva, until her death in 1961.
He was a member of the Montezuma Independent Order of Odd Fellows and for years was active in the order.
Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Louise Tindle; a nephew, Lewis Smothers, several great nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday from the Steffy Funeral Home by Rev. G.R. Dieken. Miss Alice Underwood played the funeral selections and accompanied Mrs. Keith Stahl as she sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "In the Garden."
I.O.O.F. memorial services were conducted in the home under the direction of Hoyt Bonham and Ben Purdum. Interment was in the family lot in Masonic-IOOF cemetery. Casket bearers were Sid Wheeler, Warren Smith, Howard Thompson, Ernest McFerren, Ralph Wells and Ed Allely.
