J. RAYMOND LUCAS

J. Raymond Lucas, 90, formerly of Grinnell, died Monday, Aug. 7, at a Belle Plaine nursing home.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves of Grinnell officiating. Organist was Naomi Reaves.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

He was the son of Jesse E. and Lizzie Tisler Lucas and was born July 4, 1899, at Clemons. He attended school in Clemons, and farmed following his education.

He was married to Ruby Donaldson Oct. 4, 1937, in Nashua, and she preceded him in death in 1941. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, then was married to Florence Cogley Baustian Feb. 8, 1943. That marriage ended in divorce.

Mr. Lucas was a member of the Grinnell American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Order of Eastern Star.

He is survived by three sisters, Idella Oltrogge of Grinnell, Elizabeth Wherry of LeRoy, Minn., and Mabel Teeters of State Center, and two brothers, Earl of State Center and Ed of Whitten.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; one sister, Evelyn Klatt; and one brother, Wilmer.

A memorial in Mr. Lucas's name has been established. Contributions may be left at the Smith Funeral Home.
