FLORENCE LUCAS SERVICES HELD

Florence C. Lucas, 89, of Grinnell died Sunday, April 3, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with William D. Olson, deacon of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Harold Badger, Clarence Cogley, James Cogley, Aaron Fontinel, Lance Fontinel, John O'Hara and Don Steuhm. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Lucas's name may be left at the smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of John Valentine and Cecelia O'Connor Cogley, she was born June 5, 1898, northeast of Toledo. She moved with her family to the Sheridan community and attended rural schools in Tama and Poweshiek counties.

She was married to Delmar R. Baustian Feb. 17, 1920, in Grinnell. The couple farmed northeast of Grinnell. Mr. Baustian was killed in a car accident in 1941.

In 1943, she was married to J. Raymond Lucas. They continued to live on the farm until the marriage ended in divorce. Mrs. Lucas came to Grinnell in 1964.

Surviving are three daughters, Doris Jean Baustian of Denver, Colo., Helen Fontinel of rural Tama and Shirley O'Hara of Newton; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; two grandchildren; four brothers, Valentine, Dennis, John and James Cogley; and four sisters, Elizabeth Hink, Frances Lynch Hink, Mary Ellen "May" Pickhardt and Kathleen Cogley.
