RITES HELD FOR DON SMITH

Don Smith, 43, of Rte. 4, Grinnell, died of a heart ailment Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral serices were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Lott officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Jack Gross, Bill Saville, Raymond Saville, Stephen Smith, Jon Thompson and Wilbur Van Ryswyk. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Don Smith Memorial fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell 50112.

The son of Howard Don and Norma Searles Smith, he was born on May 21, 1943, at Jacksonville, Fla. The family moved to Mount Ayr where he graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1961. He received his B.A. degree from Northwest Missouri State College in 1964.

On Aug. 25, 1963, he was married to Shirley Saville at Redding. The couple lived in Mount Ayr, Winterset and Springfield, Ill., before moving to Grinnell in 1977. While living in Grinnell, he owned and operated Smith's Automotive and was assistant claims manager for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Todd C. and Troy H., both of Grinnell; his mother and step-father, Norma and Homer McClintock of Mount Ayr; one brother, Stephen of Mount Ayr; and one sister, Mary Jane Thompson of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his father in 1971.
