The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Sept. 22, 1916

MRS. ELIZA ANN POTTER

Eliza Ann Scott was born in Java, New York state, on March 17, 1835, and came with her parents to Jackson county, Michigan, in September of 1836. She graduated from Hillsdale college, Hillsdale, Mich., on June 18, 1856.

On Nov. 21, 1859, she was married to Edward R. Potter and they made their home in Hillsdale until January of 1865, when they moved to Grinnell. Her home remained here until October of 1902, when she moved to Los Angeles, Cal., where she remained until her death on July 18 last at the age of 81 years.

In early childhood she joined the Presbyterian church, but on coming to Grinnell she joined the Congregational church, and at the time of her death was a mebmer of the First Congregational church of Los Angeles.

Two sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Potter. One of them, Ralph, died in infancy; the other is Edward R. Potter, Jr., of Los Angeles, Cal.

At Mrs. Potter's request her body was cremated and yesterday her ashes were brought to Grinnell by her son and were tenderly placed in Hazelwood cemetery, where the bodies of her husband and little son rest in the family lot which has been kept up for many years.

Mrs. Potter was one of Girnnell's good, useful women. Her memory will always be cherished by all who knew her during her years of residence here.
