ROBERT HAMILTON
Robert Edward Hamilton, 84, of Grinnell died Wednesday, July 19, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell, with the Rev. William Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Hazelwood Cemetery.
He was born May 21, 1916, in Marengo to Alfred Byron and Maude Margaret McGurk Hamilton. He moved with his family to Grinnell in 1922 and was a 1935 graduate of Grinnell High School. He attended Grinnell and St. Ambrose colleges and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was married to Virginia Beverly Wosky July 17, 1940, in Des Moines. They lived in Grinnell where Mr. Hamilton worked with his father at A.B. Hamilton & Son as the second generation of the oldest insurance and real estate business in Grinnell. He retired in 1982.
He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1266, Focht-Tennant Post No. 63 of the American Legion and the Grinnell Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Anne Thrail of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, Winston of Grinnell, John of Altoona and Byron of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Rocheford of Edina, Minn.; and one brother, David of Grinnell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
