LAST RITES SAID FOR MRS. ABNEY

Mrs. Margaret Kathryn Abney, 88, of 707 Pearl St., Grinnell, died Thursday morning, Aug. 29, at Grinnell General Hospital East.

Funeral services for Mrs. Abney were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald Spears officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Noel Taylor, vocalist. Pallbearers were Raymond Innis, Webb Wallace, Perry Wilson, LeRoy Johnson, George Mitchell and Murl Oltrogge. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mrs. Margaret Kathryn Abney was born Jan. 20, 1880, at Fiel, Schleswig, Germany. At the age of two years she came to the United States with her parents, John and Dora Hanson Soltau. The family settled in Grundy County. She attended local schools and later was united in marriage with George William Abney on Dec. 7, 1897, at Boone, Iowa.

Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Abney moved to Grinnell to make their home. Mr. Abney was employed by the former Coutts Construction Co. Mr. and Mrs. Abney celebrated 68 years of marriage before his death Dec. 18, 1965.

Mrs. Abney was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
