GEORGE ABNEY, 92, SUCCUMBS HERE; TUESDAY SERVICES

George W. Abney, 92, of 707 Pearl Street, died late Saturday evening at a Grinnell hospital where he had been a patient for 11 days.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Newell E. Davis, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Mrs. Mac Molison, accompanied by Mrs. Rhee Auman at the organ.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Innis, Leroy Johnson, George Mitchell, Murl Oltrogge, Webb Wallace and Perry Wilson. Interment will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

He was the son of Lewis and Martha Jane Lewis Abney and was born near Hastings in Adams county, Nebraska, on Sept. 9th, 1873. When he was 12 years old, he and his family left the farm they had homesteaded and came to Iowa and Grinnell.

On Dec. 7th, 1897, he was married to Margaret Soltau at Boone. Soon after their marriage they made their home in Grinnell, where they have since resided.

Mr. and Mrs. Abney celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on the day he left for the hospital.

For several years he was employed by the former R.G. Coutts Construction Co. in Grinnell.

Survivors include is wife, Margaret, at the family home; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and four sisters.
