HENRIETTA YOUNGEN MULLER

Henrietta Youngen was born Feb.21, 1840, in Valjast, Pomerania, Prussia. She was married at Stralsund to Carl Muller July 17, 1863, and removed with her family to Madison township in the county four years later. She resided subsequently in Gilman and came to Grinnell in 1885. Her husband, her three sons and four of her seven daughters survive her. Three of these, Mrs. George Stineman, Mrs. H.S. Ellis and Robert Muller, reside in Gilman, two, Mrs. Frank Psenicka and A.C. Muller, in Oskaloosa, and two, Mrs. George Lewis and Frank Muller, in Grinnell.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran church at the age of fourteen, and became a member of the church in Malcom on coming to Iowa. Her final sickness continued about three months and closed soon after an operation for a tumor which revealed a cancerous condition. She knew the peril of neglecting the operation and the possibilities of an earlier death of it was performed, and chose to have it performed, saying she was ready to go. Thus died a good wife and mother, the memory of whose generous life will long endure.

The funeral services were held at her late home on the 19 inst., conducted by Prof. Parker. Her husband and all of her children except one, who was too ill, were present, and also some of her eight grandchildren.
