RITES SET FOR MR. FLANAGAN

William A. Flanagan, 78, of 1217 Ann St. died Saturday afternoon, July 30, at the Embassy Manor in Newton.

The Scripture Service will be conducted at 7:30 tonight at the Smith Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers will be William D. Burke, David Cahill, Clair Comerford, James D. Cunningham, Don J. Donohoe and Vincent Malloy. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Martin W. and Elizabeth Hotchkin Flanagan, he was born near Sully on June 15, 1905. He attended rural school and St. Ambrose Academy in Davenport.

On Sept. 15, 1930, he was married to Helena A. Jones at Parnell. The couple farmed near Grinnell until retiring in 1970 and moving into town. Mr. Flanagan was a member of St. Mary's Church.

He is survived by his wife; four children, Marguerite Owens of Omaha, Neb., Joanne Bolton of Richmond, Ind., William Flanagan of San Francisco, Calif., and David Flanagan of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Ann Cunningham of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Martha Flanagan, Rose Comerford and May Donohoe.
