JOHN FLANAGAN DIES SERVICES MARCH 3

The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. today (March 2) at the Smith Funeral Home for Mr. John F. Flanagan, 87, who died Wednesday morning at St. Francis hospital in Grinnell where he had been residing since 1961.

A Requiem Low Mass will be said at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow (Mar. 3) at St. Mary's Catholic church in Grinnell with the Rev. John Schmitz of Weldon as Celebrant and the Rev. L.V. Kuebrich, pastor of St. Mary's church, giving the sermon. The Rev. Vincent Putzer, SDS, chaplain of St. Francis Hospital, will assist.

Pallbearers will be Paul Devereux, Don Donohoe, Leo Flanagan, William A. Flanagan, Bernard Schmitz and Martin Schmitz.

Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery near Pella.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Mr. Flanagan was born April 16, 1879, on a farm near Sully in Jasper County to William and Katherine Kelly Flanagan. He was married to Laura Van Gorkom at Knoxville, Iowa.

Mr. Flanagan lived on the farm where he was born until his wife's death and his retirement about 25 years ago.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Grinnell and lived in Grinnell the past 20 years.

Survivors include his sister, Mrs. Anna Schmitz of Grinnell and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Laura; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Dowling, Mrs. Margaret Devereux, and Mrs. Mary Hotchkin; and three brothers, Martin, Owen, and William Flanagan.
